Los Angeles is the game show capital of the world. We personally know this, for two of the Glitterati Tours guides have collectively been on over 2 dozens shows as contestants. There is truly no better game show on television than the long-running “The Price is Right.” The Price is Right tapes in Hollywood at CBS Television City at Fairfax and Beverly.
Tickets are free, and unless you have “priority tickets,” your ticket is honored on a first-come first-served basis. Typically groups of 15+ are given guaranteed seats. If you’re on a stand-by ticket, or first-come ticket, prepare for what could be a long day…but trust that it will be worth every minute once you get into the studio. The energy doesn’t stop for the solid hour they tape, plus, you could potentially walk away with tens of thousands in cash and prizes!
A bit of advice on getting on The Price as Right as a contestant: Wear something colorful and matching, especially if in a larger group. If you’ve watched the show, an entire aisle may be in the same colored shirts. Someone from that group usually gets up to contestant’s row, because the produces are guaranteed that their friends and family will go nuts when they are chosen. Also, when in line for The Price is Right, you will walk by a producer and his assistant. This is your moment to shine. Most contestants have less than 5 seconds to make an impact. If the producer asks you a question, don’t say “um?” or “good question,” instead be bold and full of personality, for this makes great television. If given the opportunity, give a one sentence response as to why you’re the best contestant, or let them know if it’s a special anniversary, a birthday, or how long you’ve been watching the show, etc.
You will most likely have a gap between getting your guaranteed seat and the call-time to come back for the taping. Head across the street to the famous Canter’s Deli and Restaurant, or take a stroll and grab a bite to eat next door at The Grove and The Original Farmer’s Market.
