Catch Restaurant in West Hollywood has only been open a month, but has already solidified itself as a favorite for the A-Lister celebrity crowd. It sits at the corner of San Vicente and Melrose, just south of the beautiful West Hollywood Library, and across the street from The Pacific Design Center. A host or hostess greets you on the lower level entrance and escorts you to the rooftop bar and restaurant. The decor and ambiance are very inviting, especially during sunsets.
The menu is eclectic with a focus on sushi and seafood. We recently had a fantastic sample of their offerings, including the roasted beet salad, and their jumbo shrimp from the cold menu. We also had their Tartare Trio with tuna, hamachi, and salmon with caviar, tobiko, and wasabi creme fraiche, served with rice crackers.
Dive into delicious sushi and entrees with specialties like their Hellfire Roll (Spicy Tuna Two-Ways with Pear and Balsamic), Vegetable King Roll with king oyster mushrooms, spicy miso and cashew, and the spicy crunchy handroll with yellow-tail.
On the “hot” side, you can’t go wrong with the crispy shrimp with spicy mayo, and the crunchy rice cakes with tuna tartare and wasabi tobiko (we actually enjoyed this one so much, that we ordered an extra serving as our dessert).
Long story short, you can’t beat the wonderful venue of Catch Restaurant. When making your reservation, get there early and enjoy a signature (copper cup) cocktail at the bar. Mix it up and enjoy several different venues within a few hundred yards at Sur/Sur Lounge, Craig’s (grab a drink at the bar and enjoy a parade of the most famous Hollywood celebrities), Cecconi’s Italian Restaurant, PUMP Lounge by Lisa Vanderpump, Abbey Restaurant and Bar, The Chapel by The Abbey (primarily a men’s bar with a gay clientele), and the soon-to-open West Hollywood Bottega Louie.
When in town, take a tour with Glitterati Tours, the #1 rated Beverly Hills Tour Company on TripAdvisor, that can showcase this area, and tons of other fascinating spots around our great city.
***NOTE: As of November 7th, we’re 50/50 on the above post. We went back a few days later to introduce 4 additional guides to this establishment. Prior, we were with a well-known celebrity, and we’re treated wonderfully, but this time, the host seemed more interested in an open wallet, rather than showcasing the establishment to individuals that can actually sell the venue from first-hand experience. Again, we act as concierges on wheels for our visitors.
One can possibly expect bad attitude at the door unless you’re a famous/infamous face. We sent an email to their website expressing that we’ve seen a lot of “hot” restaurants come and go in Los Angeles due to the self-imposed power at the door or desk. Still waiting for a response. Stay tuned.
***UPDATE: 6/18/17 —More of the above. We’ve had several of our VIP guests also encounter the same attitude this last month. There are so many great places in this town that have perfected customer service, and right now, Catch is still pretty full of itself.
In the meantime, check out the amazing desks at hotspots like CUT, and Spago, both by Wolfgang Puck, Palm Restaurant on Canon, and Musso Frank Grill in Hollywood. Old school without the attitude.
