One of the best things about Los Angeles summers is that in the evenings the heat wears off. Without the sweltering heat the city comes to life and the world seems to come alive. With the cooler temperatures you might even find you have extra energy to burn off after sitting by the air conditioner trying to keep cool. Downtown Los Angeles has celebrated the summer evenings perfectly in Grand Park just in front of City Hall – and you can join in for FREE!
Dance DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles) is a weekly Friday night event all through the summer. With free admission you can dance the night away with friends, family, and all the new friends you will meet in the park. With different themes every week there is something for everyone to get their own brand of groove on. From 90’s to K Pop to line dancing, they make sure no genre is left out of the summer fun. Feel free to dress for the theme. The more committed you are the more fun everyone will have.
No outside food or beverages are allowed in, but vendors from all over DTLA set up shop at the event to show you their goods and share in the fun. There’s also liquid courage available for purchase for anyone who needs a little extra help to really let loose.
Not sure if you know how to dance, or want to learn the style that matches the genre of the evening? Dance instructors come in to teach you – so no need to stress if you end up downtown on salsa night, someone is there to guide you and teach you a fun new skill. Vacation is all about new experiences, right?
The event is free, but parking is tricky so we suggest hopping in an Uber or using the good old Metro to get to the event. For a complete list of their themes for the rest of the summer (the event runs through August), check out their website here: https://www.musiccenter.org/dancedtla. Definitely take a peak and don’t forget to stretch before you shake your groove thing.
