Warmer days are here to stay for the next few months (okay, maybe it never is truly cold in L.A., but that ocean breeze can be chilly!), and there are few better ways to spend an evening than with a perfect view of a West Coast sunset. The best place to see it? The beach obviously. For those of you wanting to avoid the craziness of the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach but still want a relaxing evening enjoying the view, we have the L.A. insider tip to help you enjoy it best.
Just a few steps away from Santa Monica is Dockweiler Beach. With convenient parking next to the beach for only $10, and much less foot traffic, you will find yourself having a much easier evening with a lot less walking to get there. The best part about this beach? They have several fire pits scattered throughout, and all are available for public use. Just stop by a local grocery store to grab wood, lighter fluid, and all the fixings for s’mores and you are set for the evening. The pits are first come first serve so we suggest getting there by the afternoon if you want one for the evening sunset, but even on Memorial Day a few of our guides had no difficulty finding a place to cozy up next to the fire.
Another positive if you arrive early while there is still daylight to burn? There are also several sand volleyball courts around, bring a volleyball and a couple of friends, or there always seems to be a game looking for a few more people to join in on the fun. Not a volleyball fan? Frisbees, footballs, or just a good book can also fill up the afternoon. We won’t tell if you have a little something to sip on!

Happy Summer!
