Always one of the biggest questions for someone coming to our city is about lodging at Los Angeles area hotels and where to stay. There’s no easy answer, but looking at maps prior to your visit can certainly help in the decision making process. We remind visitors that Los Angeles is a gigantic city. On top of that, there are many cities within the city. They include places like Santa Monica, Malibu and West Hollywood.
Downtown Los Angeles is growing in their many offerings with food and culture. Here, you’ll be close to the convention center, Grand Park, Union Station, L.A. Live and The Staples Center. A few hotels in this area include The Intercontinental, Nomad Hotel, and The Ace Hotel. There’s also a handful of underground subway stops that can take you up to the Hollywood area in about 20 minutes.
The community of Hollywood is actually part of the city of Los Angeles. Famous landmarks in this area include The Dolby Theatre, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the walk of fame. Nearby hotels include The W Hollywood (at Hollywood and Vine next to Capitol Records and The Pantages Theater), Loews Hollywood Hotel and The Roosevelt Hollywood Hotel.
West Hollywood is adjacent to Hollywood, and it’s here where you can find the famous Sunset Strip, and streets like Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. Look here for properties like The London West Hollywood Hotel, The Mondrian, Sunset Tower, Andaz, 1 Hotel, and The Edition. Just a bit south along La Cienega, you can find The SLS Hotel and The Sofitel.
One city over towards the west, you’ll find Beverly Hills with its popular Rodeo Drive. Nearby venues include The Beverly Wilshire, The Viceroy L’Ermitage, The Waldorf Astoria, The Sixty, Luxe Rodeo Drive, The Beverly Hilton, The Four Seasons Los Angeles, and The Montage.
Westwood is adjacent, and closer to UCLA, so for this area look to The W West Los Angeles.
Santa Monica is about 25 minutes west of Beverly Hills, and there are a handful of hotels. Two that actually sit right along the sand include Casa Del Mar, and their sister property, Shutters on the Beach.
If you’re flying into L.A., and just have a very short period of time in the city before a connecting flight, LAX Airport area hotels may be your best bet. However, most attractions are going to be about 30+ minutes to the north of this area.
Yes, L.A. can be a quite confusing, but we hope this helps a bit. We’ve got all of these properties and dozens of others listed with direct links on our “LA Info” tab on our website. Glitterati Tours can also pickup in any of the above areas for your private guided tours of L.A. Keep in mind that tour times are slightly longer when picking up at Downtown L.A., or Santa Monica, since we are based in the general Hollywood/Beverly Hills area.
Happy planning!
