We often talk about the many must-try restaurants in Los Angeles for foodies. Of course this includes comfort food. Always on the list, look into In N Out Burger, See’s Candies, Sprinkles Cupcakes, John Kelly Chocolates, and Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles.
Since 1939, one of the most popular spots is Pinks Hotdogs in Hollywood. What started off as a tiny push cart, has grown into an institution near the corner of La Brea and Melrose. Hotdogs back in the day were sold for 10 cents, and a coke was half of that. Now hotdogs average about $5. Currently, Pink’s sells over 2000 hotdogs a day.
When at Pink’s, enjoy their wall of fame, which includes 100’s of famous actors and celebrities. Because of its location near many Hollywood studios, including Paramount Studios, the old Desilu, and Hollywood Center Studios, it’s always been a hotspot for the rich and famous.
The menu is huge at Pink’s, with unique creations for both hamburgers and hotdogs. Try a Guadalajara Dog, which is covered in relish, onions, tomatoes and sour cream, or a Spicy Polish Dog with mustard, chili and onions. Many of their hotdogs are also named after celebrities, like the Rosie O’Donnell Long Island Dog, which is a stretch dog with mustard, onions, chili and sauerkraut.
With the holidays coming up, Pink’s will certainly get more crowded, so we recommend getting there early. Yes, downing a jumbo dog covered in chili and kraut might be hard to stomach at 930AM, but it sure beats waiting in a line that stretches around the building and into the parking lot.
