When conducting tours of Hollywood, visitors usually comment on the great shape of Angelenos. We really have no excuse to be anything but healthy. Our year round great weather and countless outdoor activities keep us quite active. Most Hollywood locals will head up to Runyon Canyon.
Runyon Canyon is a 160 acre park with trails for the beginner as well as the hardcore athletes. You can start on the south side in Hollywood with entrances on both Vista and Fuller. Head north to the top of the hills for incredible views of the city. On a clear day, one can look straight down Runyon Canyon, over Beverly Hills, and see the ocean down in Santa Monica. Hikers can also start from the north side, entering from Mulholland Drive and head down the hill. Either way, stay hydrated and keep you eyes up for a celebrity sighting, or down in the summer for rattlesnakes. Need a last bit of fluid or protein before conquering the hills? Usually a local vendor has a small collection of beverages, protein bars, and fruit at the Fuller gate. Bring cash for it’s not always manned, and it operates on the honor system. It’s through this gate that you can also see the celebrity trainers conducting yoga classes and stretching programs.
You must be a dog lover, for they rule the hills in this off-leash oasis. However, if visiting with a small dog, it’s recommended that you keep them on a short leash. Coyotes have been known to come out in the morning and late afternoon. It takes them less than a second to grab a small animal and disappear into the thick brush and trees lining the trails.
Happy hiking from Glitterati Tours!
