If coming to Los Angeles, one must have a visitors guide to the Rose Bowl Game and Parade happening in Pasadena. This year, both will take place on Monday, January 2nd, 2017, as opposed to the typical New Years Day. That’s because the Tournament of Roses that puts on both events has a “never on a Sunday” tradition dating back to 1893. This was done to assure that horses hitched outside churches wouldn’t be spooked during events. There’s no more horses (other than those in the parade itself), but the tradition continues. There will still be plenty of celebrating on New Years Eve along Colorado Boulevard with visitors and parade watchers grabbing the best seats along the route for the parade

New Years Eve Events in Los Angeles and Hollywood are growing daily as more are announced. It used to be that neighboring Pasadena stole our thunder when ringing in the new year with their massive Rose Parade pre-festivities on Colorado Blvd on the 31st, and the big Rose Bowl Game and Rose Parade on the 1st (this year on the 2nd, because New Years falls on a Sunday)…but we’re catching up.
