Most people only hear about Hancock Park because of President Obama’s frequent trips to this extremely affluent community. As Obama lands today in L.A. to tape The Ellen Show, his motorcade will then make its way over the hill (we’re hoping he takes the Marine One helicopter and lands it at The Wilshire Country Club) and off to producer Danny Rose’s party for a fundraiser. Danny Rose is the Executive Producer for the TV show “Scorpion.” Even John Legend is expected to perform.
In the past, Obama has been to this same neighborhood for a party thrown by Shonda Rhimes (producer of Gray’s Anatomy, and Scandal), John Wells (producer of E.R. and West Wing), and the home of the old celebrity couple of Antonio Banderas & Melanie Griffith.
When most people hear of ritzy areas, they think of Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood and Malibu. Hancock park, while not in the hills, is definitely up there in home values. Built in the 1920’s, this is one of the nicest, closest communities to Downtown Los Angeles. It’s a favorite of film and television production since it’s close to the studios, and the tree-lined streets and incredible architecture can substitute for just about any city in the world. It’s been the shooting location for the Cunningham house on “Happy Days” (palm trees had to be hidden by giant tarps) “The Artist” and the classics like “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” and “Sunset Boulevard.”
It’s also home to consuls general, including Germany, Canada, and the U.K. In fact Prince William and Catherine spent a few nights in the British consulate a few years back. Of our guides was even able to stop with our guests and snap photos of the royal couple.
This huge area is basically tucked between major streets like Melrose on the north, La Brea on the west, Wilshire on the south, and Western on the east.
The area of Hancock Park can be included on Glitterati Tours “Essential L.A. Tour” and “Whirlwind Los Angeles Tour”…unless the president is visiting.
