What Month Has the Best Weather to Visit Los Angeles?

Regarding the weather, when is the best month to visit Los Angeles?  We’re not meteorologists, but as natives or long-time residents, we say ANYTIME. Los Angeles averages under 15 inches of rain a year. Our “rainy” season is typically from December to May.  We even escaped the much-predicted El Nino this year, with the bulk of any moisture staying up in Northern California.  We are fortunate enough though to have had a wee bit of rain which has kept our local mountain ranges nice and green and filled with wild flowers.

If you’re about to visit Los Angeles, we are about to enter our yearly marine layer period.  Many first time visitors confuse this with smog. Smog is something completely different and L.A. rarely has that brown ring of haze that covered the city in the 70’s. Also knows as May Gray, June Gloom and Fogust (August), we can get a heavy cloud of fog out of Santa Monica.  Guests waking up, reach for a sweater, but that is usually ripped off by 11AM or 12N once the fog burns off and the sun shines through.  So a heads up to check midday temperatures before overdressing with warm clothes as you take off for amusement parks, city tours, shopping excursions, or long walks.  Trust us, you’ll be hauling around layers of un-needed clothing.

If traveling to San Francisco, it’s a whole different story.  There’s an old quote, sometimes attributed to Mark Twain, that goes, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”  So true.  Their fog comes in off the ocean with a bone-chilling bite, especially in June.

Come experience our summer marine layer.  If booking a Los Angeles tour or any other venues, hotels, theme parks or restaurants, do so now.  Especially if during the months of July and August (Fogust), for it should be incredibly busy in the city, partly due to the recent opening of Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood.
